A survey conducted by Consumer Reports concluded that 43% of American adults who own a smartphone are convinced that their device is recording conversations. Is it truly possible that our phones are spying on us, or is it just another modern day myth? Yes, it probably is; however, there is no substantial evidence that supports this. Wandera, a mobile cybersecurity company, has preformed a series of experiments and studies that yet again demonstrate that besides anecdotal cases, nothing supports that this is actually happening.
Translating audio into text analysis for each smartphone and each profile requires massive amounts of computing and processing, and it simply can’t be done for immediate advertising. In today’s age of information, the internet of things has proliferated other advanced technologies that are being used to capture and analyze data. The online environment is an advertising goldmine for companies, and consumer data is big business. In reality, advertisers and companies have found more sophisticated ways to profile consumers.
